Kaas plateau popularly known as Kaas Pathar is Maharashtra’s valley of flowers. Situated in the western ghats, this plateau is just 25 kms away from Satara city. The plateau is classified under volcanic plateaus which are produced by volcanic activities. Since the time The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ) have declared it as Biodiversity World Heritage Site, this place have become one of the hot-spots of biodiversity.
At the end of the monsoons around mid-August to October end, the whole plateau resembles a carpet with flowers of every hue from the colour spectrum. More than 450 different species of flowers, orchids and carnivorous plants are found on Kaas. This unique ecosystem provides such a beauty to our eyes, that you cannot resist from pinching yourself while witnessing it.
So how could we stop ourselves from visiting this blooming land?
After hearing so much about it, watching pictures of people going there; We had a plan. And it had to be different. We decided to witness this beauty with a bunch of ladies. Yes! A ladies special tour to Kaas Plateau.
After much of planning, talking, and contacting people, we came up with a group of 30 enthusiastic ladies from different age, different profession and totally different lifestyles; but with a same motto to cherish the nature. The date came out to be 4th October 2015. It was the day when all 30 ladies were going to forget their daily routine, their careers, family and everything else;
and it was all going to be about enjoying a trip to the other world. We were ready to explore!
The day finally came. We all gathered together from different stops in Pune and the 2.30 hours journey started at 7 am. It was a pleasant day, we were enjoying the road journey with fellow ladies travellers, getting to know each other. Light music in the bus was enlightening our mood, and we also had some energetic ladies who showed their dance skills on it. It was like a girl’s day out thing. We were going to take a little long to reach, so we had packed breakfast of mouth watering Batate Wada & Bhajani Wada. And that had to have a company of hot cup of tea, so we stopped in hotel Virangula for a quick tea break.
We reached kaas plateau around 10 AM. Even if the sun was up, clouds were with us that day. It was so inviting and delightful. As we went on a Sunday, we were expecting a little more crowd than normal but it was way more crowded; and that made us park our vehicle almost 8 kms away from the plateau. But that pleasant climate made our walk so pleasurable that we didn’t even realise it was 8 kms !
The plateau was kind of hidden in the fog, and the every step we were taking towards it, was revealing the charming appeal of this mini heaven. The variety of more than 450 species of wild flowers was literally giving us the feel of different colored carpets just put down for us. But due to less rainfall this season, the blooming was not so much. From Main road (tar road), there are walkway paths constructed by forest department with the fencing. You can choose any route and then free to explore the beauty of nature. We went along the paths on the plateau, clicking the beautiful colourful flowers and the awe inspiring landscape. The whole spectacle was beyond words. All the ladies were totally blown by the surrounding. Though the flowers were fewer, we could still enjoy the climate. We spent more than 2.30 hours ( and trust me it wasn’t enough !) to soak our souls in that magnificent beauty of nature.
It was hard to leave that nature’s beauty, but we were time bounded. We left the plateau and went to fill our tummies with some yummy food in Prakruti resort. Post Lunch we went to visit another breathtaking nature’s creation. Thoseghar waterfalls.!
The waterfall is situated at the ridge of Konkan region with a stunning view. It is a series of waterfalls which creates loud noise in the calm nature. These waterfalls are also accompanied by a clean lake, dark woods and massive hilly terrain. The main waterfall is about 115 mtrs in height and we got to see it from an amazing point. Both the astounding wonders of mother nature made our day and left us speechless.
With a bundle of joys, bunch of memories and amazing experience, we started our journey back to hometown Pune. But we made a promise to ourselves, no matter what we will be revisiting this tiny heavenly world of flowers every year at least once.
The Smiles left on us were the important things than anything else.!!
